Method 1 Equation Method

1. Open the Microsoft Word document

2. Click on the "Insert" Tab" and then "Equation" to activate the equation box 

3.  Under the "Design" Tab click "Accent" and select "HAT" in the first row 

4. Now type the letter "y" in the dotted box for y hat

Method 2 Symbol or sign method

1. In an MS Word document type the letter "y" on keyboard 

2. Click on the "Insert" Tab" and then "Symbol" ---> "More symbol" 

3.  Under the "Font" select "Normal text" and under "Subset" select "Combining Diacritical Marks"

4. Under the symbol click on the "Combining Circumflex Accent" (^) and click "Insert" to get y hat sign

Method 3 Keyboard Shortcut 

Type Y0302 or y0302 on the keyboard and press Alt + X to write y hat

You can put a hat over any letter using these methods for example beta hat symbol, p hat, q hat, X hat, etc.
