Method 1:

1. Open Microsoft Word Document

2. Go to Insert Tab

3. Under the "Insert" tab, at the top right-hand side click on "Equation" a blue equation box will appear 

4. Click inside the Equation Box and on Main Menu Bar click on "Equation"

5. Unders the "Equation" option Click on "Accent" and select "HAT"

6. In the Dotted box type letter or a number under the hat symbol
